Trans Pennine TrailThe Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) is an exciting route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders linking the North and Irish seas, passing through the Pennines, alongside rivers and canals and through some of the most historic towns and cities in the North of England. Southport - Sefton SunsetThe Trail from coast-to-coast between Southport and Hornsea is 215 miles (346Km) long. A north-south route connects Leeds and Chesterfield and a spur to York means there are approximately 350 miles (560 km) of Trans Pennine Trail available to explore
Hadfield to Torside ReservoirTuesday 26 October 2010 - 2.5 MilesID26102010#27 This was another oop North cop outs. I had meant to do Pennine Way from Edale to here - but ended up just bumming around in Manchester and then getting the train to Hadfield (Royston Vasey) before walking to my pre booked B&B (Old House) near the Pennine Way Junction. This section is also part of the Longdendale Trail but I did not see any reason to do a separate page for this as it is almost entirely contigious with the TPT. I do not appreciate that a very high grade railway was destroyed in the 1980's (Woodhead Route) and this walk is the sad remains
Cafe Royston - Got a coffee to go (local shop for local people) - the town seems equally proud and embaressed of it's association with The League Of Gentlemen (I really enjoyed the series) The first mile or so is purely Longdendale Trail, as the TPT joins slightly East of Hadfield. This sign is near where the truncated railway yields to the trackbed Typical Longdendale Trail - once double track electrified Railway Where the TPT joins the Longdendale Trail, 1 Mile East of Hadfield By this time it was chuckin it down This cow didn't look too impressed either |
