Lindisfarne Circular (Holy Island)
Lindisfarne VillageThursday 26 August 2010 - 3.96 MilesID26082010#24 Another golden walking opportunity. For once had company - My Father and Step Mum were up for a little walkies. After driving across the causeway (and checking tide times) we parked up and walked into the village centre. Starting from the Priory, we walked along towards the Castle, with beautiful views to the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle. After passing by the Castle, perched up on its mound, kept by the coast, now heading North, towards Emmanuel Head, the terrain being almost flat. Then with a white pyramid (navigation marker) ahead, then turn West and finally near the causeway, head back South towards the village. A short easy walk, but very peaceful and beautiful. Relaxed with some great food and a bit of retail therapy before making skedaddle plans to avoid getting stranded... The Priory (not a retreat for burnt out 'celebrities'!) Atop a tiny little hill - near is some kind of lookout post, Castle in distance The groovy Castle. National Trust owned, although I did not have time to visit Looking back to the Castle Stones arranged into names...as you do Heading North Lindisfarne Nature Reserve Navigation Marker - pyramid innit Heading West Looking South towards the village Marker poles near causeway - walkers can follow these back to the mainland - the island is on St Cuthbert's and St Oswald's Way - two more groovy walks for my boots to tread Just before heading back into the village, you cross the road leading onto the causeway. People and their vehicles do come a cropper from time to time |
