The Marriott's Way is a long distance footpath and bridleway which forms part of the National Cycle Network (NCN) (Route1) and is open to walkers, cyclists and horse riders between Hellesdon and Aylsham, Norfolk, England. It is 21 miles (34 km) long and is named after William Marriott, the chief engineer and manager of the Midland and Great Northern Railway system for 41 years. You can imagine him spinning in his grave after having what amounts to a destroyed work of civil engineering and transport being named in his 'honour' - oh well! Aylsham to Norwich15 April 2003 - 21 MilesTo get to Aylsham I got train to Norwich, then on to Wroxham. I then took the narrow gauge Bure Valley Railway to its terminus at Aylsham. A sweet little endeavour, but would have been far better kept as standard gauge and connected back into the Mid Norfolk at County School! Bure Valley Railway - respect, but rather shortsighted... Aylsham. The (standard gauge) line went through a bridge here - shortsightedly been filled in...
